sun soaking spring break
given to groaning students
on the first day back
schedule mix chaos
leads to two hour commute
for witching hour
cat trapped in harness
with taste of freedom (unleashed)
given to groaning
but … i’ll keep this day
groans, moans, meows, and driving…
the road brings us home
truth hides behind sweets
spun in twisted cotton puffs
too good to resist
it’s found in blue skies
after days of silent snow
(unforgiving eyes)
it’s trapped on leashes
waiting for that outdoor risk
ready to break free
it’s the tie that binds
and breaks trust as we swallow,
candy-coated lust
light snow falls all day
clouds under skis, sky mountain
soft on aching heart
in mineral baths
i mock a tropical life
(yet i’m still so cold)
the snow drives us home
a lion-like March exit
to freeze my failure
nothing can replace
all the hours without them
now bathed with worse score
Spanglish park play date
joy found amongst las ramas
friend language rooted
(questionable choice–
my student’s family, my girls–
here we cross borders)
Spanish test failure
topped off with plainsong friend walk
to relieve my doubts
everything’s better
with melting snow and spring skies
to wash away fear
lamb ham holiday
family walk through neighborhood
sun brought back from snow
snow day number two:
sunny skies and ice-less roads
(district of regret)
grocery shopping done
house cleaned, even the bedding
(relaxing my way)
kids gone stir-crazy
fights and chasing cats outdoors
(trapped under boredom)
why did they cancel?
to give us all breathing room
snow-free sun and all
yesterday a run
in a cami under sun
today’s dawn… sun gone?
crazy cat attack
wishing winter would come back
two feet deep… too steep?
cookies baked, cake made
springtime sun pushes through shade
drive scraped clean… spring mean?
shifting weather here
spring teases, but winter’s near
snow spring… children sing.
the parent’s dilemma:
restrict further to protect
or cause more sneaking?
