Date Day

spring rain can’t stop us
 from A-line’s call to freedom
 escape found with love

Global Village

the world lives here
where i spend half of my life
 blessed to share this space

The Blues

after rain, blue sky,
 blooming redbuds, purple lawn,
 and linings of hope

Exhaust(ed)

in city blooms, petals drop
falling to pavement to be smashed by tires
ground into the street our souls walk on
their soft, lilting perfume gnawed by exhaust

just like your lack of denial
as fragile as a flower in mid-spring
silence swallowed up by gray skies and wind
clear mountain view blocked; exhausted

no matter how many miles i walk
you’ll never quite capture the right moment
when they blossom fearlessly, ready to stay
exhausted only by blue skies and sun

Antidepressant

we all need a rest
 in a spring-sunny window
 to close out the day

Petals and Flakes

according to spring,
all blooms should be center stage,
 frosting our city

 but the forecast? snow.
a different white, just as soft,
 but not so gentle

 shoulder seasons suck.
 i’ll wait for summer, sun-drenched,
 blooming from within

Love this Block

our new house beauty
lies in small flowers, short walks,
 and friendly neighbors

Branching Out

Spanglish park play date
 joy found amongst las ramas
 friend language rooted

 (questionable choice–
 my student’s family, my girls–
 here we cross borders)

Plain Old Spring

 Spanish test failure
topped off with plainsong friend walk
 to relieve my doubts

 everything’s better
with melting snow and spring skies
 to wash away fear

Bipolar Weather

yesterday a run
 in a cami under sun
 today’s dawn… sun gone?

 crazy cat attack
 wishing winter would come back
 two feet deep… too steep?

 cookies baked, cake made
 springtime sun pushes through shade
 drive scraped clean… spring mean?

 shifting weather here
 spring teases, but winter’s near
 snow spring… children sing.
