Pick Your Battles

a day in the park
as autumn weather moves in
cold ices my veins

sisterly battles
between friendships and trees
which one should i climb?

criticism blast
before Middle Eastern meal
battle of parents

which one should i choose
the oak dropping its acorns
or drought-dying maple?

a day in the park
full battle gear, war ready
at least we can choose

See Ya Summer

too tired to grade
allergies ruling my life
waiting for snowflakes

Labor Day

baby stops mid-hill
after fifteen miles, done
she’s still my winner

IMG_6275.JPG

i will wait for her
as we end this Labor Day
she is my last one

IMG_6270.JPG

my beach day Denver
filled with beautiful sun girls
swimming and cycling

IMG_6282.JPG

dreams are made this way
blue skies, wood-fired pizza, sun
and spinning tires

IMG_6273.JPG

confluence meets park
bike path meets Vittetoe fam
we meet our happy

IMG_6276.JPG

summer’s end flowers
and a zip line that beats Spain’s
best spent allowance

IMG_6281.JPG

unions gave day off
for sleeping in and waffles
life’s a rented dream

IMG_6266.JPG

i think in haikus
in between Monday cycles
that bring creeks and joy

Neither Fight nor Screen

an imagined home
from stuffies, rocks, wildflowers
neither fight nor screen

Colorado lake
full of fish, too cold to swim
sunbather’s beauty

marshmallow dessert
to toast twilight adventures
camping tastes so sweet

Life’s a Rented Dream

silver blades cut grass
mad dash for registration
test Ukrainian

new face with bright smile
knows his English isn’t great
how will he survive?

miracle trunk packed
in temporary dream car
life’s a rented dream

reservation lost
we take his lucky number
campsite without view

girls venture for joy
find una buena vista
wood-filled arms return

though we lack lake view
the mountaintop appeases
so rocky, this life

that makes our Friday
mow, pack, register, test, camp
obligations, loves

The End

sunny day at end
after a stormy summer
last pool before school

IMG_6078.JPG

When I Come Home

windy uphill ride
ended with teddy bear warmth
symbol of our life

It’s Not that Hard

you’re on a mountain
whose peak brings snow every night
your job: shovel it

Sierra Nevada

Spain’s snowiest peak
its cold has blown away hope
siesta beats all

Cartagena Today

church bells ring the hour
the sun brought my afternoon
a holiday, life
