Parent/teacher conferences. Just met with a Somali mother who told me her daughter and son were not able to attend school until they arrived here four years ago. Now the daughter is set to graduate with a 3.0 GPA while learning English and adjusting to life in a new country after staying home and helping her mother raise six kids for all those years. She wants to be a doctor.
