Road Trip 2022, Day Eleven: Cades Cove

a magical place:
the only way to describe
these teenage smiles
even pup loves it
cycling past wildlife
below the Smokies
where can you see bears
and collect salamanders
under the same sun?
this mountain-framed pic
taken on the same soil
twenty-three years past
we’re fatter, older
while the mountains are hotter;
such is life—sad changes
yet look at our girls
fearlessly taking this on
one moon-wing a time

Road Trip 2022, Day Eight: Rainforest

Kentucky has coal
but also cool rainforests
(midsummer cooldowns)
enough rain will fall
in two days to flood a creek
drunk by my puppy
water is the life
that sustains these roadside farms
its blood for our blood

Pupcut

my newly groomed pup
with his new shovel squeak toy
my baby’s so cute

Just Be a Dog. It Would Have Gone Better.

group home or our home?
uncooked soup or not eating?
there's only one choice.

Sleep. Rest. Repeat.

Pet life, the best life
nothing but a restful day
Repeated each day

Pint-Sized Hero

just a spot of tea
for my pint-sized pup hero
(always makes my day)

Teacher Tired

broken copier,
mushroom chicharrón tacos,
and this sad puppy
it's only Wednesday
of my first week back at school
and exhaustion wins

Bull-Hearted

like this worn-out dog
i have nearly given up…
yet, i’m a Taurus.
and so i garden
though it, too, is a failure
stolen by flowers
this year’s loss, in pics:
weeds and grass and tearing out
for one little heart

Road Trip 2021, Day Eight (A New Paddle)

carrying kayaks
down for a pup-and-paddle
oh the lake, the lake

Road Trip 2021, Day Seven (Pontoon Life)

a day on the lake
clear, glistening perfection
formed by hills, glaciers
with a loving pup
and our nearly-grown daughters
the day is a gift
